Project Life - Week 4

It's another snow day here - and schools are closed again tomorrow. We finally got my car out today and I feel like a free woman, even though I didn't actually go anywhere. Isn't it funny how just the thought that you can't go anywhere makes you feel so trapped and as soon as you know you could actually get out of the house, you feel so free? The kids are going stir crazy as well - no one to play with except each other! It's finally warming up and the snow is starting to melt.

Here is week 4 of Project Life. I've had everything done except putting in the pictures for several days since we were snowed in the house. The king was able to get out to work today, so he stopped by Target and picked up the pictures for me. Still able to keep up with it pretty well and I still get excited to do it! I've already started putting in the pictures for week 5 and it's not even over yet! Head on over to The Mom Creative for the Project Life Tuesday update and to see what others are doing!

Sledding and a Sneak Peek

We ventured outside today to play in the snow. We ended up with about 6 inches, plus a thick layer of ice on top. It was funny to walk on top of the snow and break through the ice. The kids got to sled for the first time. They had a blast - the prince more so than the princess. The princess got a little scared if she went to fast or was by herself. The prince thought it was all grand!! Several of the neighbors were also out and we have kids that are the same age, so everyone got to play together. Even the "big" kids (a.k.a. adult) had fun sledding. I haven't been sledding since I was a child. It's amazing none of us hurt ourselves. We live on a big hill, perfect for the big kids to sled down. The kids slid down the smaller hill between the houses.

The king pulling the prince and princess on the neighbors sled. Notice the 4-wheeler in the background. Some people up the hill were using it to pull people back up on their sleds after they slid down the big hill - that's the way to do it!!
Sheer joy on the prince's face and we "fly" down the neighbors driveway and try not to go off the back which ahs a five foot drop!

After lunch and resting a little, I got the crafty bug and headed into the craft area. Here's a little sneak peek at what I'm working on right now for a certain princess that loves all things girly and has a birthday coming up soon . . .

Project Life Week 2 and 3

Project Life Update: I've been keeping up pretty well with the picture a day. Some days it's more difficult since it seems all we do is work/school, homework, then bed. But, it will force me to come up with more creative ideas. It's only taking me about 30 minutes a week to put everything together once I have the pictures developed - I love it! I forgot to post last week, so here are Week 2 and Week 3.

I'm a little late in posting to Jessica Turner's Project Life Tuesday, but there are plenty of other entries for inspriation! Check it out overe HERE.
Working on lots of goodies for the Princess' birthday party - so much fun! Today is a snow day - too bad I actually have to work from home and can't play with the kids/be crafty until later. Looking forward to a weekend to stay in and watch movies, snuggle and be crafty!

Fingerless Gloves

For some reason, they keep the temperature at just about freezing at work - I guess they think it's going to save money. Whatever the reason, we absolutely freeze! I'd seen this "how to" on making fingerless gloves out of socks (check it out HERE). It looked pretty easy, so I thought I'd try it. I found a cute pair of gloves at Target that already had ribbon bows tied on them. I followed the directions, but had a really hard time with doing the zig zag around the thumb holes, so I ended up doing that my hand. I'm still a beginner with the sewing maching. Anyway, they turned out alright and I will take them to work tomorrow!

Have a good evening!

Project Life - Week 1

Just an FYI - Jessica Turner is doing a Link party every Tuesday for people to share their progress on Project Life. Thanks for setting this up Jessica! Check it out Here.

I ordered the Becky Higgins Project Life kit back in November and have been anxious to get it and start. It is a scrapbook kit where you can document your life by taking a picture a day. There are other uses for it, but this is what I'm going to do this year. The kit is beautiful and comes with everything you need. I think taking a picture a day is going to be difficult with our busy schedules, but I think it will be so neat to see what we've done and been through at the end of the year. The kids are growing up so quickly and I feel like they'll be all grown up in the blink of an eye, so I want to capture as much as I can of them while they are kids.

I started with the cover page and used pictures that our favorite photographer took during a photo shoot in November. He always does a wonderful job of capturing the kids and the family! The next page is week one.

I spent one evening and this morning getting everything put into the book so all I have to do now is insert the picture and journal on the journaling cards. I still plan on doing traditional scrapbooking of events and favorite pictures, but this will be an easy and quick way to document the everyday things that happen in our family and home.

Can't wait to get started on week 2! Hope you all enjoy, too!

P.S. I do want to start blogging more this year - hope that I can find the time to fit that in!

Mummified Chocolate

I saw this idea on a couple of websites and thought it was too cute! I made them for the kids teachers as well as my co-workers and some of the kids' friends.

The Prince Turns 6!!

I can't believe that my baby boy is 6! He wanted to have a fighter jet party this year and we had fun getting things together for it. We originally tried to have it at the park, rented a pavilion, but the weather kept us inside. Luckily, I had a back up plan - the fellowship hall at church. Grandma and Grandpa bought the Prince a Top Gun leather bomber jacket that he wouldn't take off during the entire party - too cute!!

For the invitations, I found some cute notecards at Target on clearance (LOVE IT!) that were blank inside. Printed the party details on vellum, inked the edges and attached with brads over a red star that I cut using the Cricut machine. So easy and quick, and I think they turned out very well!
For the party, I found inflatable Thunderbirds (Air Force, of course!), lots of silver star decorations and red, white and blue, of course! Below are some pictures of the decorations and the cake. I made the signs on painted cardboard, cut the letters using the Cricut machine and glued them on with mod podge.

The cake was made by Donut Palace and was delicious!!! I was pleased with how it turned out.
I had several activities for the kids to do. Each child got a set of dog tags that we put their name and birth date on (dog tags that you could write on with permanent marker from Oriental Trading). Each child got a balsa wood airplane that they got to decorate (color with markers, and put on star shaped foam stickers). We then helped them put the planes together and they got to fly them and try to land on the "runway". Used a piece of cardboard and attempted to paint it to look like a runway . . .

The kids had fun flying their planes. We then made paper airplanes and had a contest to see whose would fly the furthest. The dads had fun making their own planes, too! Next up was musical chairs (with Top Gun music, of course). The final activity was Pin the Propeller on the Plane. For this, I painted a plane onto a piece of painted cardboard. We drew and cut out propellers and ran them through the Xyron sticker maker to make them sticky and the kids had fun seeing who could get the propeller in the right place.

Last was cake and presents and then the kids did get to play outside for a few minutes on the playground at church. Goodie boxes were red, white and blue boxes I found on Oriental Trading with sunglasses, pencils, airplane pencil sharpeners, stickers, candy, and notepads with fighter jets on them. The Prince seemed to enjoy the party, which is what matters. I was exhausted when it was over!
